Modern Nature – Shasta

Modern Nature drop “Shasta” just as their North American tour kicks off, a track that almost didn’t make it onto their 2025 album The Heat Warps. Jack Cooper wrote the lyrics while driving through Northern California in 2024, watching Mount Shasta loom through pine silhouettes and foggy van windows for an hour. He compared it to Mount Doom. Many of The Heat Warps lyrics were born from van windows, but “Shasta” didn’t fit the album’s flow at first.

Months later, Cooper revisited it and saw something he’d missed. The song appeared on a flexi-disc with the album’s special edition, but he wanted a wider release to coincide with the band’s West Coast shows starting in Arcata, not far from Shasta itself. The timing works perfectly.
